MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS OF PENINSULAR MALAYSIA
HIGH RESOLUTION .WAV FILES

The sound files associated with the hover buttons labeled "HEAR THE INSTRUMENT" found in these pages were created using lower sampling rates and highly compressed ".au" files that permit the samples to play without spawning a separate player.

Here, we have also included audio ".wav" files that were made from the digital audio tapes described in Recording the Instruments. The recordings made at 44,100 Hertz, and digitally transferred from the original Sony® DAT recorder to computer through a Digital Audio Labs® card. Editing was done using Cool Edit 2000®.  Waveforms of individual notes from the instruments were selected and edited for length by deleting the silence which preceded the note's attack and following its release. All the samples' amplitudes were normalized. Some samples' envelopes were edited for length by smoothing the decay time.

These files may be copied and used as samples by electro-acoustic musicians for drum machines, samplers or other MIDI instruments.
